Threat Emails: Darbar Sahib (Amritsar) Head Granthi Opposes Idea of Deploying CISF

Threat Emails: Darbar Sahib (Amritsar) Head Granthi Opposes Idea of Deploying CISF

Amritsar: The Head Granthi of Sri Darbar Sahib (Amritsar), Giani Raghbir Singh, on 19 July 2025 strongly opposed the suggestion to deploy Union Government forces for the protection of the Darbar Sahib complex in light of repeated threat emails.

In the past six days, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and the Punjab government have received a total of nine threatening emails.

The Member of Parliament (MP) from Amritsar, Gurjeet Singh Aujla, had written a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, requesting the deployment of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to secure the Darbar Sahib.

However, Giani Raghbir Singh objected to Amritsar MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla’s request, emphasizing that the SGPC was fully capable of ensuring the internal security of the sacred shrine. “It is both surprising and unfortunate to learn that Gurjeet Singh Aujla, a Sikh MP from Amritsar, wrote to the Union Home Minister requesting the deployment of central forces at Darbar Sahib,” said Giani Raghbir Singh. “Such a suggestion is deeply regrettable,” he added.

Arrest and Investigation Update:

On 18 July 2025 Amritsar Police arrested a 24-year-old software engineer, Shubham Dubey, from Faridabad in connection with the bomb threat emails sent to the SGPC since July 14.

According to The Times of India, police recovered Dubey’s laptop and mobile phone, which are now undergoing forensic examination. Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar described the arrest as a “partial success,” noting that the investigation remains active given the volume and frequency of threats—nine emails in just six days.

The Sunday Guardian reported that multiple IP addresses have been traced to locations in Tamil Nadu and other southern states, suggesting the possibility of a broader network or coordinated effort behind the threats.

Meanwhile, The Tribune confirmed that FIRs have been registered under various sections, and cyber-forensic teams, in collaboration with central intelligence agencies, are intensifying efforts to identify any additional suspects or masterminds behind the threatening campaign.
