Ludhiana: It is learnt that the representatives of British High Commission were not allowed to meet Jagtar Singh Jaggi in privacy by the Punjab police. The court of a duty magistrate of Ludhiana had accepted Jagtar Singh Jaggi’s request yesterday in this regard. The court had directed the Punjab police to arrange for a meeting between the delegation of British High Commission led by UK’s Deputy High Commissioner Andrew Ayre and Jagtar Singh Jaggi between 6pm to 7pm on Friday (Nov. 24) .

Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur, lawyer of Jagtar Singh Jaggi, said that the police did not allow the British delegation to meet Jagtar Singh Jaggi yesterday (Nov. 24) citing “technical reasons”. After the police refused to allow the meeting Deputy High Commissioner returned to Chandigarh but other two members of the delegation namely Pallavi Jairath and Julie Mitchell stayed in Ludhiana.

The police allowed the two representatives of the British High Commission to meet Jagtar Singh Jaggi from 11:30 am to 12:15 pm today (Nov. 25) but the requested privacy was not allowed by the police.

“Despite court order the police did not allow the meeting in privacy and two senior police officials were present in the room during the entire meeting between the representatives of the British High Commission and Jagtar Singh Jaggi”, claimed Advo. Jaspal Singh Manjhpur.

“The request was for meeting in privacy that was allowed by the court but the police did not let it happen. The purpose of meeting was defeated by the presence of two senior police officials”, he added.

In response to a telephonic query, Advo. Jaspal Singh Manjhpur said that the (alleged) violation of court order by the police will be brought to the notice of the court on next hearing.
