Amritsar: The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) has reportedly called an emergency meeting of the Executive Committee on January 1 in the wake of an ultimatum served by the Panj Pyaras to release Giani Gurbachan Singh and four other jathedars. The Panj Pyaras have already announced that they will decide on the next course of action on January 2, if the SGPC fails to take action in this regard.
It is notable that the SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar had suspended the Panj Pyaras back in October when they had summoned Jathedars for their decision to grant pardon to Dera Sauda Sirsa chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim. SGPC chief had however withdrawn the suspension later.
Meanwhile, addressing the media, Avtar Singh Makkar reportedly alleged that the Panj Pyaras could not issue Gurmata. He alleged that Panj Pyares were creating confusion in the Panth with their public statements.
