Patiala: As per media reports three drug addicts escaped from a government rehabilitation centre, hijacked a mini bus and forced the driver to take the opposite direction for 10 kilometres before jumping off the vehicle.
The 15-minute drama unfolded in Patiala this morning.
One of the three inmates — Kulwinder Singh from Nabha, Dhanuri resident Gurmeet Singh and Hardeep Singh of Ghanaur — has been arrested, notes Hindustan Times (HT).
As per information the bus was travelling from Punjabi University to Partap Nagar. Bus driver Santokh Singh said when bus reached Bandugar area, the three barged into the vehicle. While one of them placed a knife on his neck, the other two wielded wooden sticks. “They forced me to criss-cross the city roads in speed, and later asked me to take the Nabha route. When the bus reached Kalyan village, they forced me to slow down the vehicle and jumped off it,” said the driver.
He said the three didn’t allow the passengers to call police. However, when one of them managed to call the police, they fled. Assistant sub-inspector Gurnam Singh said the police had registered a case against the accused and started a manhunt. The three were addicted to smack and their parents shifted them to the hospital on May 4 for rehabilitation, he said.
