Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana high court on Friday (Dec. 15) ordered setting up of a special investigation team (SIT) comprising three senior IPS officers to probe into the role of Moga senior superintendent of police (SSP) Raj Jit Singh Hundal in a drug haul related case. SIT, comprising DGP (HRD) S Chattopadhyaya, director bureau of investigation Prabodh Kumar and IGP (ATS) Kunwar Vijay Pratap, would look into SSP Raj Jit Singh’s ‘complicity’ with Inspector Inderjit Singh- who was earlier arrested in drugs haul case by the anti-drug Punjab STF.
While passing the orders, a division bench headed by Justice Surya Kant has asked the SIT to file a status report of the case in a sealed cover on January 31. The bench, however, made it clear that the SIT would report to the HC directly.
The court order has come a day after the Raj Jit Singh moved the HC seeking directions to hand over the investigation of FIR number 1, registered on June 12, 2017, related to drug case to some officer other than Harpreet Singh Sidhu, head of special task force (STF).
Moga SSP had maintained that STF chief Harpreet Singh Sidhu was ‘hell bent’ to implicate him in drugs case.
