New Delhi: Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) celebrated “Fateh Divas” to mark victory of Sikh warrior leader Baba Baghel Singh over Delhi in 1783. The Fateh Divas celebrations were attended by Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh, Takhat Patna Sahib Jathedar Giani Iqbal Singh, Takht Damdama Sahib Jatehdar Giani Gurmukh Singh and Takhat Hazoor Sahib vice-Jatehdar Giani JyotInder Singh besides representatives of various Sikh organizations.
Punjabi University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jaspal Singh and former Rajya Sabha MP Tarlochan Singh reportedly praised efforts of DSGMC to mark the “Delhi Fateh Divas”.
The DSGMC president Manjit Singh GK said the Fateh Diwas was organised in memory of Baba Baghel Singh who had conquered Delhi during the reign of Mughal King Shah Alam in March 1783 and unfurled a Nishan Sahib at Red Fort.
It is notable that various local Sikh bodies had jointly approached DSGMC in 2014 to take initiative to mark the “Fateh Diwas”; as a result the day was marked last year for the first time by the DSGMC in March 2014.
