Faridkot, Punjab: Faridkot police, on Feb. 15, forced Sikh Sangat to end a religious function on the complaint of followers of dera sauda sirsa (DSS). As per information a religious function was being organized by the Sikh sangat of village Pakka (near Faridkot) where Baba Harjinder Singh Manjhi was giving his discourse on Sikh religion and current issues. Followers of dera sauda, a Srisa based controversial cult, raised objections that Baba Harjinder Singh Manjhi’s references to the dera sirsa chief had hurt their sentiments. The altercation between Sikhs and dera followers reportedly took serious turn and there were chances of violence clash.
The Faridkot police intervened and forced the Sikh sangat to end the Samagam. The police also arrested Baba Harjinder Singh and took him to Police station Sadar Faridkot. He was released afterwards.
The police also arrested around twenty Sikhs, while they were trying to stage a protest on February 16. They were released afterwards.
Sikh organizations are demanding registration of a case against Dera Sauda followers.
SP Balbir Singh and DSP Gurjit Singh Romana said that situation was under control. The police officials said that the matter was being investigated and no case has been registered so far.
