Chandigarh January 21: On the last day of withdrawal of nominations for the upcoming Punjab Vidhan Sabha Elections, finally 1146 candidates for 117 Assembly seats are left in the fray.
Disclosing this an official spokesperson of the Chief Electoral Office Punjab on Saturday (Jan. 21) said that as many as 114 candidates have withdrawn on the last date of withdrawals of candidature for Punjab Assembly Elections. For the Amritsar Lok Sabha bye-poll as many as 9 candidates are left in the contest.
The Spokesperson also said that earlier 1941 nominations were received out of which 1260 nominations were accepted o9n the last day of scrutiny. After that 25 candidates withdrew their names on January 20 while 89 candidates withdrew their names on the last day of withdrawals i.e. January 21. With these withdrawals, now 1146 candidates will contest 117 Assembly Constituencies in Punjab, he added. Out of the three pending cases, the nomination papers of one candidate each from Dasuya and Budhlada were rejected while the papers of one candidate from Budhlada were found in order. Similarly for Amritsar Lok Sabha Bye-Poll out of 15 Nominations, 5 were rejected during scrutiny and now after withdrawal 9 candidates will contest the poll.
Giving further details, the spokesperson said that 9 candidates have withdrawn in Pathankot and now 35 to contest. Likewise in Gurdaspur 7 withdrawn and 66 to contest, in Amritsar 10 withdrawn and 120 to contest, in Tarantarn 4 withdrawn and 30 to contest, in Kapurthala 2 withdrawn and 35 to contest,in Jallandhar 7 withdrawn and 84 to contest, in Hoshiarpur 9 withdrawn and 70 to contest, in Sahaeed Bhagat Singh Nagar 5 withdrawn and 26 to contest, in Rupnagar 3 withdrawn while 24 in fray, in Mohali 4 withdrawn and 34 to contest, in Fatehgarh Sahib 2 withdrawn while 25 remain in fray, in Ludhiana 9 withdrawn while 137 to contest, in Moga 4 withdrawn while 41 to contest, in Ferozepur 3 withdrawn while 48 to contest, in Fazilka 4 withdrawn while 44 to contest, in Muktsar 1 withdrawn while 30 to contest, in Faridkot none withdrew so all the 28 to contest, in Bathinda 3 withdrawn while 60 to contest, in Mansa 6 withdrawn while 27 to contest, in Sangrur 5 withdrawn while 66 to contest, in Barnala 1 withdrawn while 30 to contest and in Patiala 13 withdrawn while 86 still in fray.
