Chandigarh (July 27, 2012): A day after Justice Garg’s visit to village Hondh-Chillar, All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF) and Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) demanded a three member inquiry commission comprising of High Court Justices to thoroughly investigate the November 1984 genocidal attacks on the Sikh population throughout the Sate of Haryana.
According to Karnail Singh Peermohammad, President AISSF (Peermohammad), “it took Justice Garg 16 months and continuous appeals to merely visit the site of genocidal attacks, with this pace of inquiry; it will take Garg Commission another decade to complete the investigation”. For a timely and thorough investigation, a three member commission must be set up immediately, added Peermohammad.
The FIR No. 91 lodged on November 03, 1984 carries the names of the persons who attacked the village Hondh-Chillar and burnt alive Sikhs but Justice Garg has failed to take any action on the FIR so far, lamented Peermohammad.
AISSF and SFJ announced to lobby with the Haryana Government to setup a three member commission comprising of High Court Justices so that proper investigation can be completed within six months.
In response to the PIL petition filed by AISSF and SFJ, in March 2011 State of Haryana set up a one man commission headed by Justice Garg to investigate the killing of Sikhs in Hondh-Chillar during November 1984 wherein several dozen Sikhs were killed and their properties were burnt. After more than a year, in April 2012, the scope of Garg Commission was finally extended to include the areas of Gurgaon and Patudi.
