Giani Gurbachan Singh sees justification for his decision in poll results

Amritsar, Punjab (February 7, 2012): After the victory of Badal Dal-BJP combine in Punjab assembly elections, Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh has justified his controversial “decision” for bestowing the ‘Panth Rattan Fakhr-e-Quam’ title to Badal Dal Patron and Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. He is reported to have said today that “now masses of Punjab has stamped his decision by giving thumping majority in the Punjab assembly second time in a row”. He was signaling towards victory of the Badal Dal-BJP combine in Punjab assembly elections.

It is notable here that Parkash Singh Badal was bestowed upon the title of ‘Panth Rattan Fakhr-e-Quam’ from Akal Takhat on December 5 last year amidst severe criticism from various quarters including within the Sikh nation.

Talking to selective media persons here today, Jathedar said that to confer ‘Panth Rattan Fakhr-e-Quam’ award to Badal was the right decision on right time by the Akal Takht now Sikh community and masses of Punjab expressed full faith on Badal who was voted to Power.

This is viewed as a dangerous trend in Sikh politics as heads of supreme Sikh seats are tending to lean down in service of any political leader such an extend that clearly puts the dignity and pride of such seats in question.
