Amritsar, Punjab (August 15, 2014): According to media reports Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh is still to give shape to the coordination committee that he had proposed for finding a solution to the HSGMC issue. According to a news reported by Hindustan Times (HT), Giani Gurbachan Singh has once again indicated that the coordination committee would be formed soon.
It is notable that Giani Gurbachan Singh’s role in dealing with the issue of Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) is being viewed as “one-sided”. His decision to excommunicate two HSGMC leaders, Jagdish Singh Jhinda and Didar Singh Nalvi, along with Haryana minister Harmohinder Singh Chattha is considered as a controversial move taken at the behest of Shromani Akali Dal (Badal), which controls the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC).
It may be recalled that Jathedar has proposed to form a coordination committee to find proper solution to the issue formation of separate Gurdwara panel for Haryana.
Meanwhile, the matter has reached Supreme Court of India (SCI) that has stalled status quo as far as the management and control of historic Sikh Gurdwaras covered by the Gurdwara statute are concerned.
Haryana Sikh leaders, including Didar Singh Navli, have been reasserting their position that there would be no going back on the issue of separate committee for the state of Haryana.
