As per reports in the Indian media the ban is imposed on the recommendations of India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Notably, NIA is the same agency that has booked Briton Jagtar Singh Johal and others in cases related to certain killings in Punjab. The NIA has now got the proceedings of trail against Jagtar Singh Johal and others stayed by the Supreme Court of India (SCI). The trial was being conducted by a special NIA court in Mohali (Punjab) but the NIA does not want their trial to be held by a court in Punjab and the agency has petitioned in the SCI to move the trial out of the state of Punjab.
