Indian court’s decision to acquit Sajjan Kumar sparked protest in Delhi; Metro train halted

New Delhi, India (May 01, 2013): It is learnt that the acquittal of Indian politician and congress party leader Sajjan Kumar in one of the cases of Sikh massacre 1984 has sparked protests in Delhi.

As per media reports outraged at the acquittal of Sajjan Kumar a number of people staged protest in the Delhi blocking traffic on May 01, 2013.
Shouting slogans and carrying placards demanding justice, the protesters marched to Tilak Nagar Police Station in west Delhi and blocked traffic in the area.
Metro train halted at Subhash Nagar:
As per media reports the Sikh protesters also halted a Metro train at the Subhash Nagar station.
It is notable that Sajjan Kumar, one of the organizers of Sikh genocide 1984, was acquitted by the trial court. A large number of people had gathered at the court complex, in side and outside the court room. The decision of trial court to acquit Sajjan Kumar sparked immediate resentment and a Sikh had even thrown a shoe towards the judge after the pronouncement of the verdict.
Protests in Jammu:
As per media reports the Sikh groups in Jammu also held protests over the acquittal of Kumar and blocked the Jammu-Kashmir Highway.
Metro Train Halted at Delhi by Sikh protesters (May 01, 2013)
Activists of several Sikh organisations led by Harjeet Singh sat on a dharna and took out demonstrations at Digiana on the outskirts of the city.
Raising anti-government slogans, the protesters termed the acquittal of the Congress leader as an ‘injustice’ for the Sikhs in the country”.
“Injustice has been done with us–the judgement has shown that Sikhs are second class citizens of the country”, Harjeet Singh reportedly told reporters here.
In Talab Tiloo area of Jammu, a group of Sikh youth held demonstrations against the acquittal of Kumar.
“Hearts of all Sikhs are weeping over the judgement”, Charanjeet Singh, a protester, said.
