Indian Hindi Media, JaiHindh TV, bows before worldwide anger – offers unconditional apology

Ludhiana (August 02, 2012): JaiHindTV, that aired a disgraceful video 8 months ago on December 05, 2011 has unconditionally apologized. JaiHindTV in it’s program JaiHind Episode 229, segment 4, had expressed it’s communal mindset and attempted to insult Baba Fauja Singh. This program presented by a so-called comedian named Sumit carries many disgraceful comments.

At the end of the show it is shown that Baba Fauja Singh is run-over by a heavy truc, while he was running in the middle of a raod, and further that Baba Fauja Singh dies in this accident.

In this program disgraceful comments were passed as regards victims of incident of crimes against Humanity, such as Sikh Genocide 1984 and Gujrat Muslim genocide 2002.

Now the channel has issued an “unconditional apology” and “explanation” on August 01, 2012 on it’s YouTube channel along with a video. It is notable that JaiHindTV took eight months to realize it’s “unintentional mistake”, till a spontaneous expression of worldwide anger emerged against it on social media and internet.

This video is to express our anguish and apologies regarding the controversy surrounding the Fauja Singh video we aired 8 months ago on December 5th, 2011.

“No comedian/humor writer likes to explain a joke. But when you are getting 2 death threats every minute (for 36 hours non-stop), when you are faced with that Universal phenomenon of ‘offence has been taken’ for ‘hurting sentiments of a community’, a comedian has to step aside and let the failed humans we all are take the stage.

So yes, it’s a failure that we couldn’t make that sketch (featuring the great Fauja Singh ji) clear enough to avoid such anger. And at the onset, an unconditional apology for hurting the sentiments as a result. Fauja Singh is one of the greatest, most spirited athletes our world has ever seen and there was no intention, hidden or overt, to insult him or the Sikh community. If it came across as that, then it’s a pity (and we are sorry for that, again) as the intention was to poke fun at a lot of other people who have hurt the Sikh Community worldwide since 1947.

And unconditional apologies for the last scene in the sketch where Fauja Singh’s character played by our actor is shown being run over by an animated truck. In hindsight, we agree that was tasteless and unnecessary. We shouldn’t have done that. And truth is there was no political or religious meaning to it at all.

In a short while, we will put up the script of the much hated video here, and try to explain the joke we attempted. Heartfelt apology is already there, and the video has been unlisted.

Again, we are no enemies. Just a bunch of politically aware people making satire to please our conscience. Our targets are politicians, film stars, and other people in positions of power. Not communities, not great, honest heroes like Fauja Singh. And we make fun of people in power, the establishment, ‘cos in such bad times, that’s all a humor writer can do. You may disagree with our satire, find us unfunny, but our intentions are clean”

It is notable that Chandigarh based Human rights lawyer, Advocate Navkiran Singh, was planning to initiate legal action against JaiHindTv for derogatory video aired on December 05, 2012.
