Chandigarh/ Punjab (January 11, 2014): It may sound surprising to many but its a fact that Punjab drug racket case accused are demanding CBI inquiry into the case, where as Punjab’s ruling politicians are opposing it. Jagish Bhola, a prime accused in this international drug racket case has repeatedly been daring Punjab government to order CBI inquiry into this matter. He is alleging that many Punjab politicians were involved in illicit drug trade.
Now, Jagidh Bhola’s co-accused Jagjit Singh Chahal has moved the Punjab and Haryana high court, seeking an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the case. He filed a petition on January 09, 2014.
Taking up the petition justifying the urgent need to “unearth the unholy nexus involving officials, ministers, bureaucrats, leaders of political parties and other such persons occupying positions in higher echelons of power and authority”, justice Ritu Bahri, while issuing a notice to the Punjab government, sought its reply before February 10, 2013.
A resident of Ramanachak village in Baba Bakala tehsil of Amritsar district, Jagjit Chahal was arrested by the Amritsar police on the intervening night of November 13 and 14, 2013 from his residence.
He is facing a case in which the FIR was initially registered on May 15 last year under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Banur police station in Patiala district.
