Jagtar Singh Jaggi’s Police Remand: Judge said 2 Days & Left the Court Room; Police Breaks-in Jaggi’s Ancestral House, says Lawyer

Ludhiana: The court of a Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMIC) in Ludhiana today extended police remand of arrested UK citizen Jagtar Singh Jaggi for two more days. Jagtar Singh Jaggi was presented before the Sumit Sabharwal (JMIC) in case FIR No. 218/17 (PS Salem Tabri), which pertains to the killing of Pastor Sultan Masih.

Interestingly, the remand was extended on plea for securing recovery of his passport Jagtar Singh Jaggi, while the passport was submitted to the British Embassy in Delhi by his family.

Defence council expressed shock over the extension of police remand and maintained that the police remand was being blindly extended by the court without ‘judicial application of mind by the magistrate’.

“The passport of Jagtar Singh Jaggi was submitted by brother to the British Embassy in New Delhi on November 8 and this fact was brought to the notice of Baghapurana court on November 14. But today the Ludhiana JMIC court extended Jagtar Singh’s police remand as the police said that it was to secure recover of the passport”, Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur told Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) over phone.

“When passport is with the British Embassy how could Jagtar Singh Jaggi get it ‘recovered’,” he asked.

“After the police demanded the police remand taking the passport plea, the judge granted police remand of two days and did not even listen to our argument against the plea of remand”, he claimed, adding further that he had the copy of receipt issued by the British Embassy but the judge gave him no chance to show it.

“I had just started my argument but the judge said ‘2 days’ and left the court room”,  he added.

Police Breaks in Ancestral House on Jagtar Singh Jaggi on Funeral Day:

Advo. Jaspal Singh Manjhpur accused the police for breaking in to Jagtar Singh Jaggi’s ancestral house at village Jandiala Manjhki yesterday.

“The police broke in Jaggi’s ancestral house yesterday. They broke room lock and cupboard locks and ransacked the house. No body knows what they took away or they could have placed in that house. I was to bring this serious ‘mischief’ to the notice of the court but the judge left the court room leaving no chance for the defence to bring these facts to the notice of the court”, he added.

Jagtar Singh Jaggi’s grandmother (Bhuaji of his father) who was residing in their ancestral House at village Jandiala Manjhki had passed away two days back and her funeral was held yesterday.
