He continues to undergo a life sentence in connection with the assassination of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh. Despite the acquittal in this particular case, Bhai Tara remains incarcerated for his involvement in the Beant Singh execution case.

Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur who keeps record of cases of Sikh political prisoners, told Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) over phone that Jalandhar Additional sessions judge Dharminder Paul Singla, yesterday pronounced verdict acquitted Bhai Jatar Singh Tara.
