J&K: Geelani prevented from offering prayers on Eid

Srinagar/Amritsar (November 7, 2011): Jammu and Kashmir government has reportedly prevented Syed Ali Shah Geelani, a Kashmiri leader and Chairman of Hurriyat Conference-G) from offering Eid congregation prayers on the sacred occasion of Eidul Azha being celebrated on November 7.

Dal Khalsa, a Punjab based Sikh organization, in a statement has strongly condemned the authorities for not allowing Geelani Sahib to offer prayers, who is under continuous house detention since September 5.

Lambasting Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and his father, union Minister for Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah, for curbing the fundamental and religious rights of Geelani Sahib, Dal Khalsa President Harcharan Jit Singh Dhammi said the Government of India through their agents in Kashmir were trying all its tricks in its bag to muzzle the voice of Kashmiris’.

He thanked Geelani Sahib for expressing solidarity with the victims of Nov 1984 anti-Sikh carnage.

The Dal Khalsa leader greeted the Muslims around the world in general and Muslim brethren of the Jammu and Kashmir in particular on Eid-ul-Azha.

In his greeting message on Monday, the president of the Sikh Party urged everyone to stand beside those who are less fortunate around the world.
