Tarn Taran, Punjab: During a recent Gurmat Samagam held in Varpal village and dedicated to the memory of Ghallughara June 1984, a new book titled Ghallughara June 1984: Akhin Dithe te Hadin-Handaye Haal” (Eyewitness and Lived Experiences) was officially released. Authored by Bhai Raj Singh and published by Bibekgarh Parkashan, the book provides a deeply personal account of the events surrounding the June 1984 attack on Sri Harmandir Sahib and the broader Sikh resistance led by Sant Giani Jarnail Singh Khalsa Bhindranwale.

Though not a formally trained historian, Bhai Raj Singh was a direct participant in the resistance and has conveyed his experiences with striking clarity and emotional depth. His writing, presented in a blend of narrative and poetic forms, reveals many lesser-known aspects of that turbulent period—facets often obscured by layers of political and historical distortion. Through his honest and unfiltered testimony, the book emerges as a vital historical record, offering rare insight into the lived experiences of those who endured the Ghallughara.

The book release was attended by a number of Sikh scholars, religious figures, and community activists. Among them were Dr. Kanwaljeet Singh from Sri Guru Angad Dev College Khadoor Sahib, Head Granthi of Akal Takht Sahib Giani Malkit Singh, Panth Sewak Jatha Majha’s Sukhdeep Singh Meekey, and dhadhi jatha member Bhai Satnam Singh. Other attendees included Bhai Harbhaal Singh Granthi, Bhai Sukhchain Singh Varpal, Harcharan Singh Giani Chhajjalwadi, Sukhwinder Singh Chone, and Bhagwant Singh of Baba Bakala Sahib. Their presence underscored the significance of documenting and sharing firsthand Sikh narratives as an act of historical preservation and collective memory.
