Following the rat race of forming SIT, the SCI on Wednesday ordered the formation of yet another SIT to re-investigate the cases pertaining to Sikh massacre of 1984. Notably these case have already been investigated multiple times in the past by different commissions set up so-forth.

Besides Justice Dhingra, serving IPS officer Abhishek Dular and retired IG rank officer Rajdeep Singh would be part of the SIT, which has been asked by a Bench headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra to submit its status report in two months, media reports said.

It is reported by the media sources that Justice S N Dhingra was the judge when punishments were handed out in 1990s to the accused of the Trilokpuri massacre of 1984. Kishori Lal, dubbed as the ‘butcher of Trilokpuri’, was among those sentenced by Dhingra. But what prevented him due to prosecute the main architects mainly consisting of leaders of ruling party who orchestrated the Sikh genocide is still unanswered.

Petitioner S Gurlad Singh Kahlon had earlier told the Bench that a total of 293 Sikh killing related cases were taken up for scrutiny by the earlier SIT, which had decided to close 199 of them after scrutiny, notes The Tribune (TT).
