Amritsar, Punjab (July 16, 2014): According to YesPunjab.Com, [t]he decision to excommunicate HSGPC leaders Jagdish Singh Jhinda, Didar Singh Nalvi and Harmohinder Singh Chatha was taken in a meeting at Akal Takht chaired by Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh.
Other Singh Sahibs/Jathedars who were present in the meeting included Giani Mal Singh, jathedar of Takht Shri Keshgarh Sahib Anandpur; Giani Balwant Singh Nandgarh jathedar of Takht Shri Damdama Sahib, Talwandi Sabo; Giani Iqbal Singh jathedar of Takht Shri Patna Sahib, Patna and Sri Darbar Sahib additional Head Granthi Giani Jagtar Singh.
After the meeting of the Singh Sahibs/Jathedars, the decision was announced by Giani Gurbachan Singh who gave a call to Sikhs across the world not to have any relation whatsoever with the above three.
It is pertinent to mention here that Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) have been vehemently opposing the formation of a separate committee.
Earlier in the day, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) had urged the Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh to excommunicate three Sikh leaders of Haryana from the Sikh Panth for their role in the formation of a separate Gurdwara Committee.
Separate meetings of the general house and the executive of the SGPC ‘unanimously’ resolved that two main architects of Haryana Gurdwara Management Committee Jagdish Singh Jhinda and Didar Singh Nalwi and Haryana Cabinet Minister Harmohinder Singh Chatha be excommunicated from the Panth for their respective roles in weakening the Sikh Panth and the SGPC.
However, Kiranjot Kaur, an important member of the executive declined to be a party to the recommendation regarding excommunication of the Sikh leaders.
