Lawyer to Release Report on UAPA Cases in Punjab on Dec. 9 in Chandigarh

Chandigarh: At a time when the Punjab government is gearing up to enact controversial PCOCA (Punjab Control of Organised Crime Act), lawyers and human rights activists would deliberate in Chandigarh on ‘special laws and human rights’, which reference to Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act on December 9.

The event called by Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur is dedicated to Human Rights Day, which is annually observed on December 10 in commemoration of adoption of Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations.

Speaking to Sikh Siyasat News (SSN), Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur said that the Indian state had revived the draconian laws such as TADA and POTA in a veiled manner by making various amendments made in recent years in Unlawful Activities Prevention Act which was initially enacted in 1967.

“Eminent lawyers, human rights activists, journalists and victims of UAPA are invited to take part in this discussion” he said, adding that the discussion will be followed a the release of a report on UAPA.
