Low performance in LS elections in Punjab, SAD (Badal) to ‘hijack’ issues from ‘AAP’

Ludhiana/ Moga, Punjab (May 31, 2014): Days after the parliamentary elections left the ruling party sad with just 4 seats in Punjab state, the Shiromani Akali Dal Badal (SAD-B) seems to have launched new strategy of hijacking issues that were raised by Aam Admi Party (AAP).

According to the recent media reports, the state government has already launched anti-drug drive at the one hand while deputy chief minister Punjab, Sukhbir Singh Badal and his wife Harsimrat Kaur Badal started raising Sikh issues such as the securing justice for the victims of the Sikh genocide of 1984 and the issue of Sikh identity during past few days.

The AAP had raised such issues in Punjab at priority basis during recent elections and succeeded in getting 4 Lok Sabha seats from Punjab while no LS seat was won by AAP across the country. The AAP got lead in 33 assembly segment while got near 25% vote share in the state.

In a statement sent to the Sikh Siyasat News by DPR Punjab, deputy CM Sukhbir Badal stated that the time had come to punish architects of Sikh genocide. He said so after paying obeisance at Darbar Sahib Amritsar on May 30.

His wife and Union Minister for Food Processing Harsimrat Badal had also stated the same some days ago.

Junior Badal said the SAD (Badal) will soon discuss the ongoing legal proceedings with the Union Home Minister to ensure proper investigations and early hearings of the cases to put the perpetrators of this heinous crime behind bars.

He added that NDA Government has build up the trust of Sikhs, who have been fighting for the last 30 years to get justice. He said that SAD was confident that government of Narendra Modi would deliver the justice.

Notably, answering a query regarding people’s mandate in recently concluded Lok Sabha polls in Punjab, Sukhbir said they accept and respect the mandate of people.

While reacting to the statement made by Sukhbir, renowned lawyer HS Phoolka, who fought Ludhiana Lok Sabha seat and lost with a little margin, said that 237 cases in New Delhi were closed in last 30 years and there was a need to open such cases and to bring the culprits to the justice.

“They had share in the union government some 10 years ago, why did not they bring the culprits to the justice at that time. They just want to win back the support of Sikh community of Punjab by issuing such statements”, said Phoolka who is foughting for justice for victims of Sikh genocide for many years.

AAP leader Phoolka said, “The statement of Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Cabinet Minister, that Modi Government would implement the Report of Nanavati Commission to punish the guilty, is highly surprising.In this Report, Nanavati Commission had recommended registration of only 4 cases which are against Sajjan Kumar, Jagdish Tytler. All these 4 cases were registered and investigated by the CBI. Nanavati mentioned in his report that 241 cases are closed by Police and were never sent for trial to Courts. But, unfortunately it recommended reopening of only 4 cases”.

“However it is a political turn of SAD-B and should be welcomed but we want action not the newspaper statements as SAD-B has no excuse to make for not forming special investigation team (SIT), which was proposed by former Delhi Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. There must be a fast track court for hearing in all cases related to Sikh genocide 1984”, commented Karnail Singh Peermohamd, president All India Sikh Student Federation (AISSF).
