Chandigarh (August 03, 2013): It is learnt that on August 01, 2013 the Day and Night News (DNN) channel was called off from the Direct to Home (DTH) services. It may be recalled that soon after it’s inauguration the channel was removed from the Cable TV network in Punjab because of political reasons. Cable TV network in Punjab is under the control/influence of ruling Badal regime, who were unwilling to give any space to a regional news channel that may be critical to their deeds.
The Day and Night News (DNN) was previously available on six DTH services but it was later cut down to two, namely DishTV and DD Direct+.
Journalist Kanwar Sandhu, managing director of Day and Night News, addressed the viewers on the TV channel and made a declaration that Day and Night News shall remain accessible on Cable networks in Himachal and Haryana. He declared that the operations of DNN shall be cut down and he shall not be part of this project from 1 August, 2013. He said that removal of DNN from cable tv in Punjab had adversely affected Target rating points (TRPs) of this news channel, as well as the revenues.
He said that he was aware of prospective hurdles at the time of inauguration of DNN but he had faith in the system and was confident that some might be some way. He said that it’s a defeat of those who believe in freedom of press and media. “But there was a victory in this defeat as our principles are intact” he added.
