More than 1000 feared dead in Uttrakhand; 3,000 stuck at Gobind Ghat – 62,000 at Kedarnath

Uttrakhand, India (June 21, 2013): According to media reports in Kedarnath area of Uttrakhand more than sixty thousand people have been stuck as the heavy rain fall and floods have washed away around 90 pilgrim shelter homes (dharamshalas).
The administration fears more than thousand deaths. The rescue operation are on but there is not much success because all the roads leading to the concern places are washed away by floods.
The government of India has decided to engage helicopters in rescue operations.
Meanwhile, there are reports that around three thousand Sikh devotees have been stuck at Gurdwara Gobind Ghat in Uttranchal Pardesh. Recent reports suggest that these devotees are safe but could not be evacuated due to shortage of choppers to air-lift them.
Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC), Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) and Punjab Government has announced to engage helicopters in rescue operations but there are reports that no such choppers were available with them.
