December 25, 2014 | By

Talwandi Sabo: Representatives of certain Sikh organizations announced to meet Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh on January 1, 2015 to seek implementation of the original Nanakshahi calendar. The organization, who gathered at Takht Damdama Sahib on Dec. 24, extended support to Giani Balwant Singh Nandgarh, the Jathedar of Takht Damdama Sahib, on Nanakshahi Calendar issue.

It is notable that Sant Samaj representatives had a few days ago met Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh and asked him to get the Bikrami calendar implemented.

After attending the meeting of Sikh organizations at Takht Damdama Sahib Bhai Panthpreet Singh of Gurmat Sewa Lehar said, “The 2003 Nanankshahi calendar should be implemented because Sant Samaj and SGPC are not even aware of the facts about the new Nanakshahi calendar and Bikrami calendar”.

“Sant Samaj and SGPC are misguiding the sangat by saying that Bikrami calendar and Nanankshahi calendar are same. It is misleading that the martyrdom day of Sahebzade and Guru Gobind Singh’s birthday (both on December 28) are not because of the new Nanankshahi calendar but because of Bikrami calendar. Such clash of dates had happened a number of times earlier as well in the past and it will happen again if Bikrami calendar will be implemented”, he added.

Kirpal Singh from Nanakshahi coordination committee added: “It was in 2003 that Purewal made the Nanakshahi calendar and there was no confusion till 2010 when a new calendar was implemented”.
