Ludhiana, Punjab (March 04, 2013): It is learnt that a U.S. business school has cancelled it’s plans for a video address by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
According to Wall Street Journal: “[t]he Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania on Sunday night announced Mr. Modi was no longer invited to participate in its annual India-focused conference via video later this month amid opposition from students and alumni”.
“Our team felt that the potential polarizing reactions from subsegments of the alumni base, student body, and our supporters, might put Mr. Modi in a compromising position, which we would like to avoid at all costs,” the organizers of the Wharton India Economic Forum reportedly said in a statement Sunday evening.
The Wharton episode could be viewed as a reminder of the black spot of the genocide of Muslim population in Gujrat in 2002 on the persona of Narindra Modi. Narindra Modi, being the contemporary head of the state, is believed to be responsible for the massacre of minority Muslim population during Gujrat Genocide 2002.
