Narendra Modi’s pro-farmer and pro-Punjab talks an eyewash and holds no water: Dal Khalsa

Amritsar, Punjab (April 27, 2014): Dal Khalsa said BJP’s PM pick Narendra Modi is responsible for anti-Muslim killings of 2002 and recent threat of eviction of Gujarat’s Sikh farmers hence all his pro-farmer and pro-Punjab talks during Punjab tour is an eyewash and holds no water.

The organization believed that Modi’s approach is divisive and image as fascist and draconian, hence his march to the Prime Minister’s seat would spell doom for justice and fair play for minorities.

In a statement, party spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh said the march of Modi towards PM’s chair was clearly a grim reminder of what the future holds for minorities and justice-seekers in this country. The recent threat to Sikh farmers by Modi govt in Gujarat is a classic example of Indian discrimination and double-standards faced by Sikhs in this country, said he. All talks of Modi promising to tackle drug menace smacks hollowness, he said.

He said Punjabi farmers in Kutch region of Gujarat settled there since 1965 are facing eviction despite having won their case in the Gujarat High Court. The Modi government has gone in appeal to the Supreme Court against the high court verdict.

He said Modi government has refused to release prisoner Manjit Singh who have surpassed their legal prison terms in the most arbitrary manner. Convicted for life term, Manjit Singh is under detention since 1991. “Even Badal’s personal call to Modi seeking favour for detainee Manjit went unheard”, he rued. He slammed Badals, who do not see beyond their family’s business and political interests.

He informed the media that the Dal Khalsa was holding Seminar on ‘Sikh Nation and Indian Elections-an analysis’ on April 27 at Hoshiarpur.
