Chandigarh: Former BJP MP Navjot Sidhu, Jalandhar MLA and former Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) leader Pargat Singh and independent Ludhiana MLAs Simarjit Bains and Balwinder Bains are set to launch a new political party for upcoming Punjab assembly elections 2017. As per media reports, Sidhu, Pargat Singh and Bains brothers are set to launch Awaaz-e-Punjab party.
After Sidhu resigned from the Rajya Sabha in July there were reports suggesting that the erstwhile BJP MP will join the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and become the party’s chief ministerial candidate in poll-bound Punjab. In his resignation letter, Sidhu said there was closure of every window.
“At behest of PM, I had accepted RS nomination for welfare of Punjab. With closure of every window leading to Punjab the purpose stands defeated, now a mere burden. I prefer not to carry it,” he had said.
AAP has been actively campaigning in Punjab for the upcoming Assembly elections in 2017. But the party has received multiple setbacks due to repeated controversies. Punjab leadership of AAP has started accusing central leadership of AAP for excessive centralization of powers in the party.
A Facebook post on Pargat Singh’s Page reads:
AAP rebel Dr. Dharamvir Gandhi has already announced to combine various rebel groups of the Aam Aadmi Party to form a “Punjab Centric political coalition”.
Sacked AAP state convenor Sucha Singh Chhotepur is also expected to announce his next come in coming days.
