Nihang Chief Baba Daya Singh Sursingh (90) passed away

Amritsar, Punjab (January 20, 2014): According to information Baba Daya Singh Sursingh, head of Nihang Jathebandi Baba Bidhi Chand Cheena Dal, passed away on Jan. 19 at village Sursingh after a prolonged illness. Baba Daya Singh, an influential personality in Sikh religious affairs and in politics, was 90 years old.

According to information Baba Daya Singh would be cremated on January 20.

He was admitted to a private hospital in Amritsar but was shifted to the headquarters Baba Bidhi Chand Cheena Dal on early morning of Jan. 19, where he breathed last.

He is survived by his two sons Baba Avtar Singh, Baba Gurcharan Singh and daughter Navinder Kaur.

According to The Tribune (TT): Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal, Cabinet Minister Bikram Majithia, Bathinda MP Harsimrat Badal and SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar have expressed grief over his death. The Chief Minister said Baba Daya Singh would be remembered for his service to humanity in general and Sikhism in particular.

As per information sent to the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) by Narinder Pal Singh: Baba Daya Singh was the successor to the tenth jathedar of Dal Baba Sohan Singh. He left behind his wife, sons Baba Avtar Singh, Baba Gurbachan Singh and a daughter.

Various Panthic leaders have expressed grief over his passing and termed it a great loss to the Sikh Panth.
