A Division Bench of Justice Amreshwar Pratap Sahi and Justice Sanjay Harkauli dismissed public interest litigation for a direction to ensure daily recital of the Jan Gan Man anthem on the premises of the high court as well as district courts, tribunals or other such lower courts and establishments. “In our opinion, the performance of a duty is more essential, as work is real worship,” the bench observed.

The bench categorically stated that “We dismiss this petition with the faith and hope that everybody concerned would continue to respect the Jan Gan Man anthem as desired and as expected, but we find ourselves unable to issue any such compulsive direction by way of a mandate as prayed for in this writ petition”.

It was reported by The Tribune (TT) that a PIL filed by an advocate pleaded that courts should rise each morning and begin the day with the recital of the Jan Gan Man anthem.
