Sikh Coalition to present petition to California DOE against distortion of Sikh History

Fremont, CA: A community update by the Sikh Coalition says that this week the NGO will be presenting thousands of community petitions calling upon the California Department of Education to preserve Sikh history in California.

“Non-Sikh organizations are attempting to rewrite Sikh history” the Sikh Coalition notes.

Sikh Coalition to present petitions to California Department of Eduction“As detailed in the proposed revisions, one of proposed edits denies that Sikhism opposes the caste system and idolatry. Another wants to deny that Guru Nanak, the founder of the Sikh religion, challenged the authority of the Brahmin and the power of the Mughal Empire”, the release reads further.

“The Sikh Coalition believes that all minority communities have a right to self-definition, and that is why we must let the California Department of Education hear from every sangat across the country immediately” it reads further.

“The outcome of this work in California will set a precedent for what happens in the rest of the nation. There is strength in numbers, and we urge Sikhs throughout the United States to sign and share our petition to California policymakers in support of preserving Sikh history”.
