Now SGPC imposes ban on carrying three-feet Kirpans in Darbar Sahib on June 6 every year

Moga, Punjab (June 24, 2014): As per information availed by Sikh Siyasat News (SNN), the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC), in a controversial move, has imposed a ban on carrying three-feet or more long Kirpan (sword) in Shri Darbar Sahib premises on Ghallughara June 1984 anniversary every year, which takes place on June 6 usually.

President SGPC Avtar Singh Makkar, while talking to Daily Post journalist Naveen Kalia confirmed the development late Tuesday evening (June 24, 2014). Talking to the SSN, Naveen Kalia told that SGPC president told him that the ban would be applicable only for a day in a year.

Earlier, Punjabi News Channel Zee News Punjabi reported that the SGPC president has banned the carrying of Kirpan especially on June 6 every year, after taking note of clashes between SGPC task force and Simranjeet Singh Mann supporters.

On June 6, 2014, alleged clash between SGPC task forces and supporters of president Shriomani Akali Dal Amritsar Simranjeet Singh Mann left 12 persons injured and both the groups used swords at the Akal Takhat to attack at each other.
