Amritsar: The National Security Act (NSA) has ended for seven out of ten Sikh detainees who have been held at Dibrugarh jail in Assam since March 2023. The Punjab police have confirmed the development, stating that the seven individuals will now face arrest under FIR No. 39/2023, registered at Ajnala police station.

The seven detainees, namely Basant Singh, Bhagwant Singh alias Pradhan Mantri Bajeke, Gurmeet Singh Gill alias Gurmeet Bukkanwala, Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal alias Kulwant Singh, Gurinderpal Singh Aujla alias Guri Aujla (Phagwara), Harjeet Singh alias Chacha (Amritsar), and Sarabjeet Singh Kalsi alias Daljeet Singh Kalsi (Delhi), will be brought back to Punjab on transit remand. They are scheduled to be presented before the Ajnala court in connection with the case registered at Ajnala police station.
Notably, the names of Amritpal Singh, Pappalpreet Singh, and Varinderpal Singh Fauji are absent from the list of detainees being brought to Punjab.
Punjab Police DIG Border Range, Satinderpal Singh, has said that the detainees were arrested on different dates, resulting in varied NSA termination dates. He said that further details regarding the remaining detainees, including Khadur Sahib MP Amritpal Singh, will be shared as they become available.
