Interacting with the media, the present incumbents of both the organizations Bhai Harchranjit Singh Dhami and Bhai Harpal Singh Cheema said their members would walk on the streets and lanes of Jalandhar city to protest against the killings of thousands of innocent Sikhs in the capital of Hindu-India way back in November 1984 and to voice their concern against slavery and injustices.

They said the objective of the march was to highlight the dismal plight of Sikhs and to kindle the flame of freedom. They said their members would assemble at local Gurdwara to perform Ardas in memory of those who had been killed in a systematic and planned manner.

Expressing concern over the survey conducted by The Global Slavery Index that India is home to highest number of ‘slaves’, they said it reflects the mindset of the rulers. As per survey, out of 30 million slaves in the world, 13.9 million are in India They alleged that in addition to these around 13 million people, Kashmiris, Nagas and Sikhs too were being treated like slaves and their homelands as colonies.

Describing the 1984 incident as “genocide of Sikhs” and not riots as described by section of media, they said Sikh Diaspora has cried hoarse, year after year, for the last 29 years, that such gross injustice should shame the rulers of the country, but to no avail.

“It’s ironic that all attempts to get justice within the legal framework of the Indian system for the victims of 1984 anti-Sikh carnage have failed,” they rued.

Blaming squarely the political leadership of the country for anti-Sikh carnage, they said whenever injustice goes unpunished and the perpetrators of crime were rewarded with cabinet posts, the terrible beast of communalism is revived in more horrific ways. To drive their point home, they said had the perpetrators of 1984 massacre faced the music of law the horrific events of Gujarat in 2002 and Orissa in 2008 would not have occurred.

Both the Panthic groups have also resolved to observe the martyrdom day of Shaheed Beant Singh at Akal Takht on October 31, 2013.

A function will be organised to mark the 29th death anniversary of Beant Singh at Akal Takht, said Kanwar Pal Singh of Dal Khalsa.

We will request the Jathedar of Akal Takht to be personally present on the occasion and honour the son of Beant Singh.

Posted in her inner security ring, Beant Singh and Satwant Singh, had shot Indira Gandhi from close range on October 31, 1984. While Beant Singh was killed on the spot by security personnel, Satwant Singh was convicted and hanged in Delhi later on January.
