Mumbai, India (July 13, 2014): It is learnt that the Election Commission of India (ECI) has rejected explanation of former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan in a paid news case. The ECI has reportedly asked the Congress party leader to submit his representation within 20-days.
These developments may bring more trouble to the Congress party which won just two Lok Sabha seats out of the Maharashtra’s 48 seats in the Lok Sabha Elections 2014.
In a move that could be termed as a major setback for the Ashok Chavan, the ECI has also slapped a show cause notice to him, saying that he failed to file his election expenses in the manner as required by the law.
According to Zee News reports, Ashok Chavan has been found guilty by the EC of fudging poll expenses during state Assembly Elections in 2009.
In the notice, the ECI has asked Chavan as to why he should not be disqualified.
