Haridwar, Uttarakhand: Whereas Haridwar (Uttarkhand) police had banned entry for Sikhs in Haridwara city and “Hari Ka Paudi” on the occasion of Parkash Gurpurb of Guru Nanak Ji, a Professor from Chandigarh managed to recited Jap Ji Sahib at Har Ki Pauri. Prof. Panditrao Dharennavar, a non-Sikh professor who is currently based in Chandigarh but originally hails from Karnataka, recited the Gurbani in his mother-language Kannada.
Panditrao Dharennavar has translated Jap Ji Sahib into Kannada. While talking to Sikh Siyasat News (SSN), Panditrao Dharennavar said he decided to recite the Gurbani on the occasion of Gurpurb because he thinks that one day people of Haridwara will come up and build the Gurdwara Gyan Godari Sahib on the original site of Gurdwara Sahib at “Hari Ka Paudi”.
Panditrao also distributed Jap Ji Sahib to hundreds of shopkeepers in “Hari Ki Paudi” area and talked to them. He said that it was an attempt that the thinking process of people will change and they would recognize the importance of the fact that the Sikh Gurdwara Sahib should be restored to it’s original site.
It is notable that on November 06 the Uttarakhand police arrested hundreds of Sikhs who were heading to the site of Gurdwara Gyan Godari Sahib to observe Parkash Gurpurb of Guru Nanak Sahib. As per reports hundreds of other Sikhs inhabiting the areas around Haridwar were put under undeclared house arrests and they were not allowed to move out on the day of Gurpurb.
It is notable that Gurdwara Gyan Godri was a historic Sikh shrine at Haridwara that marked the memory of Guru Nanak Sahib Ji’s visit to the place and signified the rejection of superstitious rituals by Guru Sahib. The Gurdwara Sahib was destroyed during November 1984 genocidal violence against the Sikhs.
