Chandigarh: The BJP which has been consistently targeting the Congress party for promoting and encouraging nepotism and dynastic politics has found itself in a soup over “parivar” (legacy) politics, due to the demands by senior leaders for tickets for their kins ahead of Punjab State assembly election. Notably, elections are due on January 2017.
As per the media reports Punjab’s Industries Minister Madan Mohan Mittal and state Parliamentary Affairs, Forests and Wildlife Minister Chunni Lal Bhagat want tickets for their sons. Both the ministers are over 75 years of age, and as per party guidelines, cannot contest the elections,
As per The News Indian Express (TNIE Mittal, who is an MLA from Anandpur Sahib, wants a ticket for his 48-year-old elder son Arvind Mittal, a lawyer and a member of RSS . Bhagat wants a BJP ticket for his son Mahinder Bhagat, 59, who has been handling his constituency Jalandhar (West). “The decision on tickets for their sons will not be taken by the party high command,” said a senior party leader.
