Punjab CM Badal cries foul at formation of Haryna Sikh Gurdwara Judicial Commission

Bathinda, Punjab (August 31, 2014): A couple of days after Haryana government appointed Jora Singh as chairman of Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Judicial Commission (HSGJC), Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, on Sunday, opposed the move.

He said the recent move to form Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Judicial Commission is a “wrong step” as the matter of a separate committee for the state was pending in the Supreme Court.

Punjab CM alleged that the Haryana’s Bhupinder Singh government was meddling into the Sikh religious affairs.

The Supreme Court of India had ordered Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) and Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) to maintain status quo while asking Haryana government and centre to file an answer in the court. The SCI reportedly passed no such orders barring Haryana government from forming Judicial commission or appointing office bearers.

On the second day of his tour in Talwandi Sabo Assembly Constituency, the Chief Minister said the issue of separate committee was under judicial consideration in the apex court and “any move to form Haryana Sikh Judicial Commission will not only be legally incorrect but also ethically wrong”.

Holding congress “responsible for hatching a conspiracy”, Badal said that while the matter was pending in court, it was “illegal to form the judicial commission and appoint its office bearers”.

Badal said Hooda was taking wrong step at the “behest” of Congress high command to divide the Sikh nation.
