Patiala: A day after the violent clash between students and the Punjab police in Punjabi University Patiala the Punajb Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, on Nov. 21, asked Patiala senior superintendent of police (SSP) and the deputy commissioner to submit a report on the incident.
CM Badal reportedly instructed the Patiala SSP to “ensure justice for all.”
SSN sources said that there was uneasy calm on the university campus after the Nov. 20 incident with agitating students shifting their protest from the main gate to outside the Vice Chancellor’s office.
Student activists have started a relay fast against the “police brutality” and the university’s failure to address their grievances.
Student leader alleged that instead of initiating action against the erring officials who “slapped, abused and canecharged the protesting students,” the police have booked several student leaders.
A news reported by The Tribune (TT) notes that [t]he functioning of the university and Vice Chancellor Jaspal Singh is also under the scanner. The VC did not make any efforts to restore peace on the campus. Neither did he visit the injured students. The university has postponed the theory exams for under-graduate classes that were to begin on November 26.
