Amritsar: Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal today visited Escorts Fortis Hospital in Amritsar to see Hindutva activist and Shiv Sena’s local (Gurdaspur) leader Harminder Soni who was shot at by a Sikh youth yesterday.

A news reported by a journalist named Jagmohan Singh at PunajbExpress.Com notes that Punjab Chief Minister issued a “stern warning to pro-Khalistan radical elements involved in the attack on Shiv Sena leader Harvinder Soni at Gurdaspur” and said that “the SAD-BJP alliance government was fully determined to crush the ugly head of such forces”.

“He asserted that some forces inimical to the progress and prosperity of the state were hell bent upon disturbing its hard earned peace”, notes PunjabExpress.

Police maintains that Kashmir Singh revealed during interrogation that he had attacked Harminder Soni to reveng beating up of some Sikh youth by Shiv Sena activists during a bandh caqll by radical Sikh organisations in Gurdaspur on March 29, 2012. A youth of Beant Engineering college Gurdaspur Jaspal Singh was killed in the police firing following a number of scuffle between Hindu and sikh organisations during the Bandh call.

Badal condemned attack on Shiv Sena leader and praised the Punjab Police for timely acting against the attackers. He said that the state police have once again upheld its glorious tradition of performing its duty diligently.

Harminder Soni and the killing of Bhai Jaspal Singh Gurdaspur:

Harminder Soni is a local leader of Shiv Sena and is know for anti-Sikh activities in Gurdaspur district. He was also accused in an attack on some Sikh youth on March 28, 2012 during Punjab Bandh call given by Sikh organisations to protest against proposed hanging of Sikh political prisoner Balwant Singh Rajoana.

Harinder Soni was also considered responsible for situation that had led to police firing on a peaceful Sikh protest on March 29, 2012. It is notable that Sikh sangat were holding a peaceful protest in Gurdaspur on March 29, 2012 demanding police action against Harminder Soni and other Shiv Sena activists for beating up Sikh youth and removing their turbans. But instead of taking action against Shiv Sena leaders the police had opened fire on peaceful assembly of Sikh youth. A young Sikh student Jaspal Singh of village Chaur Sidhwan was killed in police firing while another Sikh youth Ranjit Singh was seriously injured.

Badal’s duality exposed once again:

Badal never uttered any work in condolence to victims of March 29, 2012 rather Badal government gave freehand to Punjab police to do everything to prevent justice in Jaspal Singh Gurdaspur’s murder case; even local MLA of Badal Dal was also involved in attempting to pressurise the victim family and prevent justice.

On the other hand Badal personally reached out to see attacked Hindutva leader who is known for his anti-Sikh activities, including disrespect and burning of Sikh dastars/ turbans. The terms Badal used to verbally attack Sikhs also expose his pro-Hindutva and anti-Sikh stance.
