Chandigarh: The Punjab & Haryana high court here on Friday granted bail to Bhai Harminder Singh Mintoo in a case registered against him in 2014 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Arms Act.
After being cleared from Nabha bomb recovery case on Thursday, this is his second case in which he has been granted bail in the past fortnight.
As reported by the media the order by Justice Tejinder Singh Dhindsa came in Harminder Singh Mintoo’s regular bail plea filed through his counsel Bhanu Pratap Singh in a case registered in August 2014 at the Bhogpur police station in Jalandhar district.
He will continue to remain behind bars in spite of the bail order as he has been arrested in other cases as well, notes The Tribune.
Taking up his previous bail plea, Justice Surinder Gupta had directed the Jalandhar District and Sessions Judge to “look into the matter and ensure that trial of this case be expedited and the same be disposed of at the earliest and preferably within nine months”, media sources said.
Apparently, his counsel Bhanu Pratap had asserted that petitioner, declared a proclaimed offender, was arrested on November 7, 2014, in the UAPA case.
He added that 10 other accused in the case had already been acquitted.
