January 5, 2017 | By

Chandigarh: At the time when the Election Commission Of India was announcing the election schedule for Punjab, yesterday a Central Home Ministry-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) while re-examining the 1984 Sikh genocide cases questioned Congress leader Sajjan Kumar after inviting him as an “accused”.

The questioning of Sajjan Kumar was reportedly carried out on Wednesday (Jan. 04) by a member of the SIT.

While interacting with the media persons the investigating officer without divulging the details of the questioning session at Lok Nayak Bhawan,  said the former MP was quizzed in connection with some of the 59 cases the SIT has narrowed down after scrutinizing the records of nearly 300 complaints registered after the genocidal massacre. “At least two of these cases pertain to murder and attempt to murder,” said the SIT member.

Sajjan Kumar was questioned for nearly two hours, his lawyer Anil Kumar Sharma confirmed that his client was questioned by the SIT.

Anil Kumar Sharma stated “that his client was asked about a vehicle used by the accused during the riots to which Sajjan Kumar replied that he never owned the said vehicle” a report by The Hindu notes.

The SIT set up by the Centre in 2015 to investigate the Sikh pogrom cases has charged the Congress leader with murder, attempt to murder and rioting on the basis of complaints by Harvinder Singh, one of the victims.

Three decades of Impunity and denial of Justice:

It is notable that high ups in the Congress party and the Indian administration perpetrated the Sikh genocidal violence against the Sikhs in November 1984, in which thousands of Sikhs were massacred throughout India. Culprits of the genocidal massacres of Nov. 1984 have enjoyed impunity and high political posts during past three decades where as the victims of the massacre were left to perish as the justice was blatantly denied in these cases.
