Amritsar/ Chandigarh: Even as Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal recently claimed that the magnitude of the drug problem in the state was “much less than in many other states of the country”, chief parliamentary secretary and BJP MLA Navjot Kaur Sidhu strongly dissented stating that some leaders have been using their official, red beacon vehicles to supply drugs, reported Hindustan Times.
Slamming the state’s deputy chief minister and alleging the involvement of cops and politicians in the drug menace, Navjot Kaur, wife of cricketer-turned-MP Navjot Singh Sidhu, said during the party’s two-day state executive meeting in Jalandhar: “These red beacons have been allotted by deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal to every Tom, Dick and Harry,” according to Hindustan Times.
Navjot Sidhu’s criticism of the leaders of party’s ally Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) followed soon after she publicly expressed her anger against SAD (Badal) and said she will not contest the next Assembly polls on a BJP ticket if the alliance continues.
BJP leader said she had joined politics with high dreams of serving the state and the poor but her hopes stand shattered because of the “humiliation” and “step-motherly” treatment meted out to her by the Badals. “I will not be contesting (on BJP ticket) if there is an alliance with the SAD,” said the Amritsar-East MLA.
She alleged that she was always “humiliated” by the Badals. She further added that she had never been accommodated whenever she approached the state government for any project.
