Release Political Prisioners: Dal Khasla

Amritsar (December 10, 2010): On Human Rights Day (2010), hundreds of activists associated with AISSF and Dal Khalsa today marched on the streets of Amritsar to protest against the human rights abuses of Sikhs in the last 3 decades. Mostly youth, they chanted slogans condemning the suppression of Sikh rights and sought release of all political prisoners including Bhai Daljit Singh. They rued that no guilty police officer responsible for killings of hundreds of Sikh youths have been brought to book till date. They sought the arrest of KPS Gill and other guilty officers.

Dal Khalsa spokesman Kanwar Pal Singh took the state government to task for giving sweeping powers to the police force by passing new draconian laws in the state assembly last month. He said it’s ironic that in the last one year, many illegal arrests have been made, many people have been tortured and many have been subjected to harassment and humiliation.

On the occasion, AISSF president Karnail Singh said All India Sikhs Students Federation (AISSF) and Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) would launch “SIKH Justice Movement” from Jan 6 onwards under the patronage of Sri Akal Takhat Sahib and with the support of Dal Khalsa, Shiromani Akali Dal (Panch Pardhani), Khalsa Action Committee and other Sikh bodies.

Earlier, KAC chairman Bhai Mohkam Singh performed Ardas at Akal Takht after whichthe candle march started and concluded at Hall Gate. The victims of 1984 Sikh genocide and aged mothers of those youth who were picked up and killed extra-judicially by police in 90’s also took part in the roadshow. Sandeep Kaur Kashtiwal, Sarbjit Singh Ghuman, Balwinder Singh Chabal, leader of SAD (Panch Pardani) and Balwant SIngh Gopala were also present.
