Amritsar Sahib: Condemning the Shiromai Akali Dal (Badal) for betraying Sikh interests, the pro-freedom Sikh group Dal Khalsa stated that merely by celebrating its foundation day at Manji Sahib, Darbar Sahib, the party won’t be able to revive its Panthic roots.
The basic issue is that this organisation having monopolised the Sikh politics is functioning in league with the Hindutva forces having agenda of homogenisation.
Party’s spokesman Kanwar Pal Singh is of the view that unless and until Badal Dal snap its ties with BJP and reconnect itself to core values of Sikhism under new leadership having ideological leanings, it won’t be able to regain its lost space and sheen within Panth.
“Let me make it clear. We are concerned only because the run-of-the-mill Akali politics has corrupted the premier Sikh Religious institutions by controlling the functioning of the SGPC and the Secretariat of Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar by proxy,” he adds.
Furthermore, he said that the SAD (Badal), which is led by Badals isn’t the sole representative body of the Panth as claimed by its leaders. “Panth is the embodiment of the collective will of the Sikhs”. Akalis by and large represent Sikhs electorally in the sense that most of the people who vote for Akali Dal in elections are Sikhs.
At present the Akali Dal is led by persons who are devoid of ideology and principles. The SAD (Badal) is just like any other party working to wrest control of political power by hook and crook, he adds. He reminded that during the course of struggle in 80’s the entire heavyweight leaders either accepted pro-freedom Sikh groups as their mainstream or went into oblivion.
During the uprising in the wake of Beadbi (sacrilege) of Shiri Guru Granth Sahib at Bargari, SAD (Badal) was seen as part of enemy camp and not savior of the Panth. Reiterating that perception matters, he said SAD (Badal) was no less plagued with corruption and nepotism than any other Indian mainstream party, Kanwarpal Singh further said.
Meanwhile, he asserted that with Sukhbir Badal at its helm of affairs, Badal Akali Dal is heading nowhere.
