Gurgaon, India: A day after the attack on Manipuri men in Bangalore, two young men from Nagaland were severely beaten up in Gurgaon by a gang of locals, reports HT.
The locals numbering about seven, held the men in confinement in Sikanderpur area and beat them up with cricket bats and hockey sticks on Wednesday night, a support group for northeast students said.
The attack saw the two boys being brutally beaten up by bats and sticks, reports Times Now.
According to the news channel, the attack was clearly racially motivated as the attackers told the two boys, “Tell your North-East people to leave Sikanderpur”, before letting them go. One of the victims also told the channel, “They said that if we were from Manipur, they would kill us.”
The victims were first rushed to a private hospital nearby, but seeing the injuries were severe, they were taken to the Civil Hospital.
25-year old Awang and Chester, both from Nagaland, have been staying in Sikanderpur over the last two years and work at a BPO.
The youths were called out from their houses around 11.30pm, and taken to a nearby vegetable market, where they were allegedly assaulted.
After the attack the attackers also cut their hair, and asked them to tell their friends from the northeast to leave the area.
“If you were from Manipur, we would have killed you” the attackers reportedly told the men.
