Amritsar: Terming the supreme court verdict as completely unacceptable to Punjab, the Dal Khalsa vowed not to let the construction of SYL at any cost.
Party senior leaders H S Dhami and Kanwar Pal Singh blamed the executive and the judiciary for muddling Punjab river waters issue clearly violating riparian principles.
While determinedly reiterating that Punjab would not allow the construction of the SYL canal, they were categorical that Punjab owned waters of the Sutlej, Ravi and Beas and no legislation or court could deprive the state from its right of ownership.
“Our brethren have laid their lives and suffered behind bars for years while safeguarding the waters of the state and we won’t let their sacrifices to go in vain”, said they.
They asserted that Punjab was the state who’s more than 55 per cent of the river waters were already being diverted to non-riparian states and further loot of its resources were neither acceptable nor tolerable.
They were highly critical of the role and efforts of traditional Congressmen and Akalis in 80’s and 90’s terming it dubious and detrimental to the interests of Punjab.
