Self-styled godman Piara Singh Bhaniara acquitted by Ambala Court

Ropar/Ambala (March 5, 2013): It is learnt that an Ambala court has acquitted Piara Singh Bhaniara for publishing a controversial book titled “Bhav Sagar Samunder Amarbani Granth”.

Piara Singh Bhaniara is said to be seen writing the controversial ‘Bhawsagar Samunder Granth’ in this picture at his Dera. Earlier, he had denied that he had authored the banned book. [File Photo – Source: The Tribune; October 07, 2001]

The publication, sale and possession of this book was reportedly banned on the ground that the book was defamatory to the Sikh religion.

“It was also alleged that the material promoted enmity between different groups of society on grounds of religion” reports The Tribune (TT).

A case under Sections 501, 295A and 153A was registered against the Piara Singh Bhaniara 12 years ago on October 3, 2001 at Nurpur Bedi. Following this e was reportedly arrested in October 2001.

According to media reports the prosecution had failed to prove that these books were penned down by Piara Singh Bhaniara and that the material was recovered from his dera.

Thereafter, Ambala Chief Judicial Magistrate Anshu Jain acquitted him.

According to a news reported by Punjab24.Com: World Sikh Mission president Narinder Singh Anroli, who was also pursuing this case in the Court, has said that they after securing the copy of the judgement lawyers shall be contacted to decide regarding future course of action.

“Piara Singh Bhaniara is facing three more cases and the court has deferred the hearing of other matters till April 3, 2013.
