SGPC likely to announce Harcharan Singh’s name as Chief Secretary today

Amrtisar: The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee is likely to announce the name of appointee for controversial seat of a Chief Secretary today. As per media reports the SGPC has convened a meeting of the executive committee for today (August 24) at Anandpur Sahib.

A news reported by Daily Ajit notes that the meeting is convened primarily for the purpose of making announcement regarding appointment of a former Punjab and Sindh Bank director Harcharan Singh as first chief secretary of the SGPC. The meeting is expected to be attended by SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar and other executive committee members.

As per media reports Harcharan Singh is close to rule Badal family of Punjab.

There has been wide criticism of SGPC for creating a new post of chief secretary allegedly under political pressure from Badal family. The chief secretary would be withdrawing rupees 3 lacks per month in addition to other monetary and non-monetary benefits.
